Ford Transit Custom Remap — Stage 1 Power, Torque & MPG

The Ford Transit Custom 2.0 TDCi EcoBlue is the UK's best-selling commercial van — and one of the most popular vans on the road for Stage 1 remapping. Whether you run a single trade van, a small fleet, or you just want your daily workhorse to pull harder when loaded, a Stage 1 remap is a transformative upgrade for very little outlay.

At Boostcore, we remap Transit Customs, Transits, Tourneos and the 2.0 TDCi engine family every week across Southampton, Hampshire, Eastleigh, Totton, Romsey, Fareham, Portsmouth, Winchester and Basingstoke. Tradespeople, plumbers, electricians, couriers, delivery drivers — the remap delivers more torque when loaded, easier driving in city traffic, and meaningful MPG savings on long runs.

Engine & ECU Details

The 2019+ Transit Custom uses the 2.0 TDCi EcoBlue engine, controlled by the Continental SID211 ECU. Common variants we tune:

  • 105 bhp / 360 Nm (Trend, Leader) — the entry-level power output, the most common on UK roads. Massive headroom on this variant.
  • 130 bhp / 385 Nm (Limited, Sport) — the mid-range output.
  • 170 bhp / 415 Nm (MS-RT, Sport 185 with 10-speed auto equivalent) — the top-spec, also a strong remap candidate.
  • 185 bhp / 415 Nm (late-model 2023+, mild-hybrid compatible) — the newest variant, well-understood by now.

All variants use the same SID211 ECU family and tune in the same way — via the OBD port, no bench work required. We confirm the exact ECU type and software level before quoting, so the file is matched to your specific van, not pulled from a generic library.

Real-World Gains

Example Transit Custom Stage 1 Remap Gains

The 105 bhp variant is the headline — a +85 bhp / +100 Nm gain transforms the way the van drives. Higher-output variants see proportional but smaller absolute gains.

What you'll notice

What a Transit Custom Stage 1 Feels Like

Pulls Harder When Loaded

The biggest win for a working van. With a full load of tools, materials or cargo on board, the 105 bhp Transit Custom can struggle — particularly on hills, on roundabouts, and on motorway slip roads. A Stage 1 remap adds 100 Nm of torque, which is the figure that matters most for a loaded van.

Fewer Gear Changes

The 6-speed manual (or 10-speed automatic) drops down less often, holds gears longer, and gives you useful torque in a higher gear. This is the single biggest day-to-day improvement — you stop hunting for the lower gear on every incline.

Better MPG on Long Runs

On an economy-leaning map, motorway MPG typically improves 5–10%. Tradespeople covering 20-30k business miles a year save real money — the remap pays for itself in fuel savings over the first 12-18 months on a high-mileage van.

Less Driver Fatigue

Underrated benefit. A van that responds to the throttle, holds its gear, and pulls on hills is a less tiring van to drive. Particularly noticeable on long days, in heavy traffic, or on routes with lots of roundabouts.

How We Remap a Transit Custom

The job takes around 60–90 minutes on a Transit Custom, start to finish, and is done at your home, workplace or yard anywhere in Southampton, Hampshire or the surrounding area. The SID211 ECU reads and writes via the OBD port — no bench work needed.

  1. Pre-job diagnostic check. We scan all ECUs for fault codes, check live data (boost pressure, DPF pressure, EGR position, injector corrections, maf readings) and confirm the engine is healthy. A clogged DPF, a sticky EGR or a tired turbo are common on high-mileage vans and we'll flag them before writing any new software.
  2. Read the original ECU file. Via the OBD port. The original file is saved — this is your safety net and your return-to-stock file.
  3. Write the Stage 1 file. Calibrated for the 2.0 EcoBlue platform, with attention to the duty cycle of a working van (loaded, motorway, urban stop-start). The file is written to your ECU in about five minutes.
  4. Post-job checks and road test. We re-scan for fault codes, log a short road-test pull, and hand the original file back to you on USB.

If your van is sign-written or part of a fleet, we can come to your yard. Many fleet operators book a morning slot and have multiple vans remapped in a single visit.

Compatibility & Hardware

What's Compatible and What Stays Standard

Standard Hardware

Stage 1 is software-only. The standard turbo, injectors, DPF, EGR and AdBlue all stay. The van looks completely standard externally — important for lease, warranty and resale. Fully reversible.

Manual & Automatic

We tune both the 6-speed manual and the 10-speed automatic Transit Custom. The 10-speed auto has torque limiters that we recalibrate as part of the remap, so the box doesn't artificially hold the engine back.

Tourneo & Other Variants

The Tourneo Custom, Transit Connect and larger Transit all use the same 2.0 EcoBlue engine family and tune the same way. We can also develop files for the older 2.2 TDCi (pre-2019) Transit Custom — these are a different ECU (SID208) but well-understood.

DPF & EGR

Stage 1 keeps the DPF, EGR and AdBlue system fully operational. No warning lights, no limp mode. If your DPF is already showing signs of blockage (DPF light on, frequent regen, low MPG), we can diagnose and clean it before the remap.

AdBlue / SCR

AdBlue dosing and SCR system are preserved. If your Custom is throwing AdBlue-related fault codes, we can diagnose and address those — they're typically caused by a faulty sensor, a failed injector or a dosing issue, not the remap itself.

High-Mileage & Fleet

The 2.0 EcoBlue is a robust engine and responds well to a Stage 1 remap right up to 200,000+ miles. For fleet operators we offer on-site service and combined bookings across multiple vans in one visit — just send us a quick message.

Common Questions

Transit Custom Remap FAQs

Under UK consumer law, Ford cannot void your entire warranty just because the van has been remapped — they have to prove the remap caused a specific failure. We save your original ECU file, and if you ever need a return-to-stock for a warranty claim, the file is restored to factory standard in about 20 minutes. Many owners choose to return to stock for major dealer visits.

You must declare the remap to your commercial insurer. Most UK van insurers either accept it with no premium change (common with mainstream providers) or charge a small uplift. The file is calibrated to OEM safety levels and is fully reversible — return-to-stock is a 20-minute job.

No. Stage 1 keeps the DPF, EGR and AdBlue system fully operational. Regeneration cycles continue as normal, no warning lights, no limp mode. If your DPF is already showing signs of blockage (DPF light on, frequent regen, low MPG), we'll flag it during the pre-job diagnostic and recommend a clean before tuning.

Around 60–90 minutes on a Transit Custom from start to finish, including pre-job diagnostic, ECU read/write, post-job check and a short road test. The van is off the road for about an hour in total.

AdBlue dosing and SCR system are preserved. A Stage 1 remap doesn't disable or modify the AdBlue system. If your Custom is throwing AdBlue-related fault codes (a common issue on the 2.0 EcoBlue), we can diagnose the cause separately — usually a faulty NOx sensor, a failed dosing module, or low AdBlue quality. These are not addressed by the remap itself but can be diagnosed at the same visit.

Yes — fully and at any time. We keep your original ECU file (and hand it to you on USB) so the van can be returned to factory standard in about 20 minutes. We also offer a return-to-stock booking service separately for customers who want us to handle it for them — useful for dealers and trade customers.
