The factory map is a compromise — it has to work in cold weather, hot weather, with poor fuel, with a dirty air filter, at the start of the service interval, and at the end of it. The factory map is engineered to deliver acceptable performance and acceptable economy across all of those conditions, which means it leaves efficiency on the table in normal operation.
An economy remap tightens that compromise. It adjusts the part-throttle fuelling, the boost-by-gear map, the torque limiter, and the throttle response so the engine delivers its torque earlier in the rev range, with less demand on the accelerator.
