Booking an ECU remap is exciting — but a small amount of homework will protect your engine, your warranty and your wallet. Here are five things to check before you book.
1. The remap starts with a diagnostic
If a tuner offers to remap your car without a diagnostic health check first, walk away. A remap puts extra load on the engine, intake and turbo, and any underlying faults (low battery, vacuum leaks, failing sensors, weak ignition) will be made worse by a tune. Boostcore always runs a full diagnostic before tuning.
2. The ECU file is backed up
Before any changes are made, your original ECU file should be read and saved. That way the remap is fully reversible — for example, if you sell the car, want to return to standard, or need to send the ECU back to manufacturer spec.
3. The map is vehicle-specific
A one-size-fits-all ‘off the shelf’ map is a red flag. Quality tuning houses write their own maps or work with reputable partners. Boostcore uses vehicle-specific software tailored to your engine, fuel system and turbo.
4. The deposit policy is clear
Boostcore’s £50 booking deposit is non-refundable. The reasoning is simple — when you book a slot we block the diary, source the correct software and turn away other bookings. The deposit covers that commitment. If you need to rearrange, just give us at least 48 hours’ notice.
5. The workshop is insured and qualified
Ask about insurance, qualifications and equipment. A professional mobile remap should be carried out by a trained professional using modern bench or OBD equipment, with public liability insurance in place.
