A DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) warning light is one of the most common dashboard warnings on modern diesel cars and vans. It usually means the filter is becoming blocked and is no longer able to regenerate itself automatically. Here’s what to do — and what not to do.
Common causes of a DPF warning light
- Lots of short, low-speed trips where the filter never gets a chance to regenerate
- Faulty DPF pressure sensor
- Failed or blocked EGR valve
- Worn injectors causing incomplete combustion and excess soot
- Faulty temperature or differential pressure sensor
- Failed or weak turbo
What NOT to do
Don’t ignore it. A blocked DPF left long enough will lead to limp mode, loss of power, and in the worst cases a damaged turbo or engine. Don’t be tempted by cheap ‘delete’ or ‘removal’ services — they are illegal for road-legal vehicles and will fail an MOT. Don’t ignore the root cause by simply clearing the codes — the light will return and the underlying problem will get worse.
What TO do
Book a professional DPF diagnostic. Boostcore will read the DPF’s live data (soot loading, pressure differential, regen history), check related systems (EGR, turbo, injectors) and recommend the most appropriate solution — whether that’s a forced regeneration, a professional clean, a sensor replacement, a software solution or component repair.
